Gabon have revived their hopes. After a 2-0 defeat in the opening round, the Panthers overcame Niger 2-0 to collect their first 3 points in Group A of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Evaghé and Bouanga get the job done

After a cagey first half, the Gabonese settled the match in the second period. In the absence of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, other attacking leaders took responsibility. Rudy Junior Evaghé opened the scoring in the 53rd minute before Denis Bouanga added the second goal in the 77th minute. A clear 2-0 victory. Gabon thus earned their first three points after losing their opening game 0-2 to favourites Morocco.

Niger, who made a strong start after beating Lesotho 2-1, have begun to falter.

Morocco remain top

Earlier in the day, the Atlas Lions overcame Lesotho 2-0. At the conclusion of this second round, Morocco lead the standings with 6 points, while Gabon have reclaimed second place. Niger sit third and Lesotho fourth and last. The next international break looks set to be decisive.
