2027 U23 Africa Cup of Nations: Comoros withdraw

A major blow for the young Comorians. The Comorian Football Federation has announced the withdrawal of its U23 team from the qualifiers for the 2027 U23 Africa Cup of Nations.

A U-turn after the draw

However, the FFC had confirmed its participation to CAF and had even taken part in the draw on 25 August in Cairo. At the last minute, the Comorian governing body has therefore withdrawn its squad from the competition even before the matches have begun.

With this withdrawal, there will be no Comoros vs Madagascar clash in the first round. The Barea U23s automatically qualify for the second round of the qualifiers.

Financial problems

According to journalist Romain Molina, this withdrawal is due to budgetary problems within the Federation. “The Federation has been facing major financial difficulties for some time and doesn’t really have a development plan...”, Molina revealed on his social media accounts.
