A European giant made a move for Neymar this summer!

For several months, Napoli nurtured a dream both wild and enticing: bringing Neymar to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium. The idea, which first emerged last January, fueled heated discussions between Antonio Conte, sporting director Giovanni Manna, and club president Aurelio De Laurentiis. The Brazilian, a symbol of show-stopping football and pure creativity, represented for Napoli’s leadership the magical spark that could extend their Scudetto momentum.

But as the weeks went by, the dream collided with reality. The coaching staff feared that such a high-profile signing could disrupt the balance of a squad built on discipline and cohesion. When Kevin De Bruyne became a serious option, the Neymar file was definitively shelved. Too many risks, too much uncertainty regarding his physical condition for a player whose brilliance can no longer mask his recurring injuries.

Having since returned to Santos, his boyhood club, after a mixed spell at Al-Hilal, Neymar is still struggling to regain full fitness. Between relapses and lengthy absences, he has played only about twenty matches this year. Yet even diminished, the Brazilian prodigy's name continues to spark dreams in Naples and beyond.
