AC Milan believes in its chances of signing Virgil van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk could join AC Milan at the end of his spell with Liverpool. According to journalist Carlo Pellegatti, the Milan club’s directors hope to attract the Dutch defender, whose contract with the Reds expires at the end of the season.

Milan have been monitoring the situation for several months

Having joined Liverpool in January 2018, Virgil van Dijk has established himself as a key figure in the English defence. At 35, the Dutchman remains an experienced player whose profile is reportedly of interest to AC Milan’s directors.

The Italian club had already been linked with this possibility last July, with the idea of signing him in summer 2027. The latest reports now suggest that a move could take place as early as January.

A contract nearing its expiry

The defender’s contractual situation could facilitate discussions. According to Football Insider, negotiations over a potential extension with Liverpool are not expected to take place before April. AC Milan would therefore have two options: negotiate a transfer with the Reds during the winter transfer window or wait until the end of the season and try to sign Van Dijk as a free agent.

Journalist Carlo Pellegatti believes that the defender will eventually join the Italian club. However, the completion of this deal will depend on Liverpool’s stance and on how the contractual situation of its captain develops
