AC Milan: Luka Modric reveals the reason behind his contract extension

In a recent interview, Luka Modric shed light on the reasons behind his decision to extend his stay with AC Milan.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the former Real Madrid midfielder explained that he always intended to continue his journey with AC Milan. However, he wanted to wait before making it official, taking time to assess both his physical condition and his motivation.

"I always intended to stay for another year. I could have signed as early as December, but I wanted to listen to my body. I needed to see if I still had the same hunger to win, the same drive, the same passion to keep playing," revealed the 2018 Ballon d'Or winner.

Having convinced himself that he still had what it takes, and moved by the club's trust in him, the Croatian international made it clear that the support from the management and the fans played a decisive role in his decision to extend his stay with the Rossoneri. Now approaching 41 (his birthday falls on September 9), Luka Modric has signed on for another season, during which he'll compete in the Europa League under the guidance of Ruben Amorim.
