AFCON U23 2027 (Q): Benin aim to surprise Tunisia

Benin’s U23 Cheetahs are preparing to take on a major challenge against Tunisia this Tuesday, September 29, in the qualifiers for the 2027 Egypt U-23 AFCON, which serves as a qualification tournament for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. Just hours before the first leg, head coach Bruno Adoula Goudjo and his squad showed their determination to secure a positive result in Sousse.

Bruno Adoula Goudjo is relying on preparation

On the eve of the match, the Benin coach led his team’s final training session before answering questions from the press. Aware of the quality of the opposition, he believes his players will need to show discipline and exploit the weaknesses identified during their video analysis:

Tunisia has been one of the best footballing nations in Africa for a very long time. And ever since the draw, we have known that we are facing a serious team. We also know that Tunisia is not a team we can take lightly. We have come here to, at the very least, limit the damage by applying a high press. We will not give up.

The Benin coaching staff studied Tunisia’s latest outings, notably its matches against China and Portugal. The objective will be to contain the opposition’s attacks while taking advantage of opportunities to make the difference.

Prince Ricardo Dossou believes in his team

For his part, Prince Ricardo Dossou said that the squad was ready to face Tunisia. The player emphasized the team’s cohesion and this side’s ambitions. The two victories secured in friendly matches played in Togo are also a source of confidence for the Cheetahs as they approach this decisive encounter:

We have come here to win. This is a very strong group. Without lying to you, this group will be a great generation. I want to call it the miracle generation. We are going to do a lot of things. We are going to make the people of Benin dream.

The meeting between Tunisia U-23 and Benin U-23 will be played at the Sousse Olympic Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. Benin time. The Beninese will therefore have to turn their preparation and confidence into a positive result against a strong opponent.
