African giants plot audacious Peter Shalulile swoop

Foot Africa has been led to believe that Libyan giants Al-Ittihad Tripoli are plotting an audacious swoop for Peter Shalulile on a free transfer ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

The 32-year-old prolific striker is eligible to sign for any club of his choice after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the 2025/26 season, ending a six-year stay.

He had joined the Tshwane giants in September 2020 from Highlands Park, and went on to make 228 appearances with 107 goals and 27 assists across all competitions.

Shalulile won five league titles, a solitary Nedbank Cup, MTN8, African Football League (AFL), and the coveted CAF Champions League during his spell at Sundowns.

Now, with the new season fast approaching, the Namibia international is currently in the wilderness, albeit has a host of suitors lining up for his prestigious signature.

Sources have informed this publication that Libyan big spenders Al-Ittihad are weighing up an offer for the highly sought-after centre-forward who presents a market opportunity.

However, the 18-time Libyan champions face stiff competition from several teams in Africa and abroad, including Sudanese heavyweights Al-Merrikh, who joined the race.

Furthermore, Scottland FC of Zimbabwe are also interested, alongside Esperance de Tunis who have revived their interest, in addition to potential Saudi Pro League suitors.

While Al-Ittihad are expected to present a lucrative financial offer for Shalulile, they are unable to offer CAF Champions League football, which could prove detrimental.

Whether Shalulile will ply his trade in Africa next season remains to be seen, with interest in his services intensifying beyond the continent.
