Amin Omar leads All-Egyptian crew for Intercontinental Cup opener

An all-Egyptian officiating crew, spearheaded by international referee Amin Omar, has been appointed by FIFA to take charge of the opening FIFA Intercontinental Cup clash between Saudi giants Al Ahli and New Zealand's Auckland City.

A fully Egyptian officiating crew

The selection of a complete Egyptian team for this prestigious intercontinental fixture underlines FIFA's continued trust in the high standards of North African officiating.

Amin Omar will serve as the main referee, supported by seasoned assistant referees Mahmoud Abou El-Regal & Ahmed Hossam Taha.

Mahmoud Nagi has been assigned the duties of the fourth official on the touchline.

To ensure complete technological oversight, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) booth will also be manned by Egyptian officials. International referee Mahmoud Ashour will lead the VAR operations assisted closely by Tarek Magdy.

The path to Mamelodi Sundowns

The opening fixture of the newly formatted tournament is scheduled to take place tomorrow, 26 August, with the Al-Inma Stadium in Jeddah hosting the highly anticipated encounter.

The match serves as the official launchpad for Al Ahli's campaign. Representing the Asian continent as the AFC Champions League Elite winners, the Saudi club will look to leverage a massive home advantage against the reigning OFC Champions League titleholders from Oceania.

The stakes are incredibly high, the victor of this clash will punch their ticket to the next round, where the formidable South African powerhouse Mamelodi Sundowns is waiting.
