On Tuesday night, Lamine Yamal once again wrote his name into football history.

Thanks to his goal against Aston Villa last night, Lamine Yamal became the most prolific teenage player in Champions League history. The Spaniard officially broke a prestigious European record previously held by Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappé. Yamal became the highest-scoring player under the age of 20 in the history of the Champions League.

The goal took the player’s career total in Europe’s most prestigious club competition to 14. Lamine Yamal continues to confirm his undisputed status as one of the most promising attacking talents in world football today.

Mbappé stuck on 13 goals

Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappé had scored 13 goals in the elite competition as a teenager, playing in France for AS Monaco and Paris Saint-Germain. Yamal had already made his mark by matching Mbappé’s tally, with ten Champions League goals before his 19th birthday. The FC Barcelona winger now sits alone at the top of the teenage scoring charts.

The Spaniard needed just 37 Champions League matches to reach 14 goals in the prestigious competition.
