Barcelona lead Aston Villa 1-0 at half-time on the fourth matchday of the Champions League. Hansi Flick's men quickly took the lead through Lamine Yamal, who scored in the 7th minute.

Yamal makes the difference

The young Barcelona forward opened the scoring after just seven minutes, putting the Blaugrana ahead. Since then, Barça have controlled possession and imposed their rhythm against an Unai Emery side that has been forced to focus more on defending.

The Catalans have notably enjoyed clear dominance in possession, without managing to extend their lead before the break. Aston Villa therefore remain in the game despite the difficulties they have faced in containing their opponents' attacks.

Three bookings in the first half

The first half was also marked by three yellow cards. Ian Maatsen was booked in the 11th minute, before Emiliano Buendía received a caution in the 31st. Raphinha was also sanctioned just before the break, in the 45th minute.

Barça have dominated possession, with 68% compared with Aston Villa's 32%. The Catalans have also recorded three shots on target, compared with just one for the English side. However, the Villans have a slight advantage in duels won (21 to 20). At half-time, Barcelona therefore lead 1-0 thanks to Lamine Yamal. Aston Villa will need to show more attacking character in the second half if they are to get back into the game.
