Bayern: Ballon d’Or winner Harry Kane makes an announcement
On Wednesday evening, Bayern Munich will face Atlético de Madrid in the Champions League with their brand-new Ballon d’Or winner, Harry Kane.
English striker Harry Kane, whose contract expires at the end of the season, used the pre-match press conference to announce that talks over an extension were close to being finalised.
“I would say it’s now just a matter of days. We had some good discussions this weekend, and again today, so yes, I know I keep saying that we’re close to the finish line, but we’re now extremely close; the details are just details, as with any contract. Most of the important points have been settled, and we’re happy with that, but with any contract, there are a multitude of small things to take into account, as well as minor details that ultimately the lawyers have to sort out. So yes, overall, I would say it’s a matter of days rather than weeks. The discussions went well again today, and I hope we’ll be able to reach an agreement in the next few days,” he said.
Kane’s first game as Ballon d’Or winner ends in disappointment
Last Saturday, Harry Kane played his first match after being crowned the 2026 Ballon d’Or winner. On the occasion of the Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund, the Bayern Munich striker was even given the opportunity to present his prestigious trophy in front of the Allianz Arena crowd.
However, on the pitch, the outcome was far less encouraging. Highly anticipated after his individual triumph, Kane failed to live up to the occasion. Lacking inspiration and unable to truly make a difference, the former Tottenham player notably missed a penalty, epitomising a particularly difficult performance. His shot crashed against the crossbar before he missed a huge chance with the goal almost empty.
Bayern Munich also let two points slip away in the final moments of the match, conceding a 2-2 draw against their great rival.
