It’s time for a great European clash! FC Barcelona host Aston Villa at Spotify Camp Nou this Tuesday evening on the fourth matchday of the Champions League. After their emphatic 6-1 victory over Alavés, Hansi Flick’s side want to confirm their return to form. Their opponents, Unai Emery’s men, arrive with strong ambitions and a perfect European record so far.

A duel steeped in history

FC Barcelona and Aston Villa meet in a highly anticipated European clash. The English side have won their first three matches in the competition and are among the leading teams. Barça, meanwhile, want to take advantage of home soil to consolidate their position in the top eight.

Unai Emery has faced FC Barcelona 30 times as a coach. His record stands at three wins, six draws and 21 defeats. His success rate against the Catalans is just 10%. The two teams had not faced each other since the European Super Cup in January 1983. Aston Villa won that tie on aggregate over the two legs (3-1).

The official lineups

Hansi Flick has made three changes to his XI compared with the match against PSG. Fermín López, Rodri and Brian Farinas are named in the starting lineup. Dani Olmo and Xavi Espart are injured, while Marc Bernal starts on the bench. Lamine Yamal is already posting impressive statistics in the Champions League. He has been directly involved in 26 goals in 36 appearances in the competition, with 13 goals and 13 assists. Aston Villa will have to find a way to limit his influence.

FC Barcelona: Garcia – Martin, Farinas, Cubarsí, Cancelo – Fermín López, Pedri, Rodri – Lamine Yamal, Anthony Gordon, Raphinha.

Aston Villa manager Unai Emery makes four changes compared with the last European match against Viking. Matty Cash, Ian Maatsen, Boubacar Kamara and Johan Manzambi come into the starting XI.

Aston Villa: Suzuki – Cash, Lindelöf, Torres, Maatsen – Kamara, João Gomes, Manzambi – Buendía, McGinn – Nicolas Jackson. Follow the match live here.
