An 8th summer signing at the buzzer: The youth registration trick fueling Al Ahly’s final transfer

Al Ahly are racing against the clock on the final day of the summer transfer window having reportedly reached a definitive agreement to sign Al Mokawloon midfielder Mohamed Abdelnasser.

A deadline day push for Abdelnasser

With the Egyptian transfer window closing on Saturday 15 Aug, Al Ahly's hierarchy has been working continuously to finalise their squad for the 2026 /27 season. According to winwin, board member Sayed Abdelhafiz and head of contracts Essam Serageldin have led the deadline day negotiations.

The pursuit of Abdelnasser was heavily influenced by a recommendation from current Al Mokawloon manager and former Al Ahly player Sami Komsan.

The club plans to register the midfielder in their youth squad as a 2005 born player providing the coaching staff with greater roster flexibility. To accommodate Abdelnasser on the five player youth list, Al Ahly are expected to remove Mohamed Raafat who currently occupies a spot alongside Mohamed Abdallah, Ibrahim Adel, Ahmed Khaled Kabaka and Omar Sayed Moawad.

The logic behind Abdelnasser's deal

If completed, Abdelnasser will become the Red Devils' eighth signing of a highly active summer window. The club has already secured Ali Mahmoud and Aqtay Abdallah from ENPPI, Mounsef Bakrar from Dinamo Zagreb, Soufiane Benjdida from Maghreb de Fes, Tawfik Mohamed from Petrojet, Mahmoud Salah from Ghazl El Mahalla and the return of free agent Akram Tawfik.

Al Ahly's extensive summer recruitment drive, bringing in eight new players across various positions, highlights a deliberate and aggressive squad overhaul. By targeting a promising talent like Abdelnasser and registering him as a 2005 born player, the management is smartly circumventing senior squad limits while adding midfield depth.

Al Ahly are expected to officially announce the signing of Mohamed Abdelnasser in the coming hours before the summer transfer window shuts tonight. Concurrently, the club will wait to see if any late, formal bids materialise for Reda Slim to finalize their roster for the new season.
