An Italian club opens talks for Philip Otele

Philip Otele's future could soon be written in Italy. According to Pierpaolo Verri, Lecce has reached out to FC Basel to explore the possibility of transferring the Nigerian winger. Talks have kicked off, but the Swiss club's demands are already making things complicated.

Only one option on the table

FC Basel has no intention of repeating last season's scenario. After Otele returned from his loan at Hamburg, the Basel management is now only considering a permanent transfer and has ruled out the idea of another loan spell. The German side had a buyout clause set at 4.5 million euros, but ultimately decided not to activate it despite Otele spending the season in their colors.

Under contract until June 2028, Philip Otele is no longer planning his future in the Swiss Super League. President David Degen recently admitted that the situation remains "very dynamic," hinting that a move could still happen before the transfer window closes. While talks with Lecce progress, the Nigerian remains available to his coach and could start in the upcoming league clash against Lausanne-Sport.
