Argentina: Lionel Scaloni expected to extend with La Albiceleste until 2030 World Cup

Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni has reportedly reached an agreement with the Argentine Football Association (AFA) to continue in his role until the 2030 World Cup. According to Tribuna.com, only the official signing of the contract remains to seal the extension.

Lionel Scaloni is expected to remain in charge of the Argentina national team for the next four years. According to information reported by Tribuna.com on October 21, the 48-year-old coach and the AFA's officials have reached an agreement to extend their collaboration until the end of the 2030 World Cup.

Scaloni's current contract expires in December 2026. With that date approaching, questions remained over the future of his spell with La Albiceleste. The talks have reportedly resulted in an agreement in principle, although the signing of the new contract is still awaited.

Scaloni, continuity after the titles

Since taking charge in 2018, Lionel Scaloni has left a profound mark on the recent history of the Argentina national team. Under his leadership, La Albiceleste won the Copa América in 2021, the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and another Copa América in 2024.

These successes have strengthened his position among Argentina's supporters and officials. The coach has also managed to keep a competitive team around Lionel Messi while gradually integrating new players.

An extension until 2030 would allow Scaloni to continue this work over the long term, with the ambition of representing Argentina at the next major international competitions.

The reported agreement has nevertheless yet to be made official. Pending the signing of the contract, the Argentine Football Association has not yet formally confirmed the extension in the information reported by Tribuna.com.
