Argentina: Lionel Scaloni’s future becoming clearer

Lionel Scaloni could continue his work at the helm of Argentina for several more years. According to Nicolò Schira, talks between the coach and the Argentine Football Association are reportedly close to reaching an agreement that would run through the 2030 World Cup.

Continuity after several successes

Appointed to lead the national team in 2018, Scaloni has marked his tenure with several major titles. Argentina notably won two Copa América titles and the 2022 World Cup under his management.

Despite this record, his future has recently raised questions. His current contract is due to expire in December 2026, and the coach had indicated that he was considering the next step in his career. Talks over an extension had already been discussed in June, but there has been no official announcement since.

Agreement still awaited

According to Nicolò Schira, negotiations have now progressed, and the two parties are reportedly moving closer to an agreement to continue their collaboration until 2030.

Such an extension would allow Scaloni to prepare the next international cycle with Argentina. Confirmation from the federation is still required, however, as no new agreement has been officially announced.
