Arsenal beat Everton to draw level with Manchester City
Arsenal made a strong move in the title race. Having beaten Everton (2-0) at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday in the 8th round of the Premier League, Mikel Arteta’s men took advantage of Manchester City’s defeat to Aston Villa to draw level with the leaders on 21 points.
Arsenal control the match
The Londoners quickly took control of the game. From a corner by Martin Ødegaard, Gabriel flicked the ball on in the box, allowing Ezri Konsa to bundle it into the back of the net in the 7th minute. The opening goal rewarded the Gunners’ strong start, and they continued to create chances.
After the break, Arsenal maintained control of the game before doubling their lead in the 68th minute. On the end of a cross from Ben White, Gabriel Magalhães headed home the second goal, putting his team definitively out of reach. The goal also marked his 200th appearance in the Premier League with Arsenal, a symbolic milestone for the Brazilian defender.
Arsenal pile pressure on City
With this victory, Arsenal have recorded their seventh win in eight league matches and now have 21 points, the same as Manchester City. The Gunners remain behind the Citizens on goal difference, but their victory allows them to keep up the pressure in the fight for top spot.
Everton, meanwhile, have suffered a second consecutive league defeat and will need to respond on the next matchday.
