Arsenal lose William Saliba for several months

Arsenal have confirmed some bad news regarding William Saliba. In an official statement, the London club announced that the French defender is suffering from a back injury that will keep him off the pitch for an extended period.

An injury lingering for several months

After returning from the World Cup, where he helped France reach the semi-finals, Saliba underwent further medical examinations in London. These revealed an injury requiring a lengthy rehabilitation period. However, surgery is not being considered. According to L'Équipe, the French international has been dealing with chronic back pain for some time.

Despite this physical issue, he continued to play while taking painkillers to help Arsenal in their pursuit of silverware. The 25-year-old picked up the injury during France’s World Cup semi-final defeat to Spain (0-2), leaving the pitch within the first half hour.

A major blow for the Gunners

A guaranteed starter alongside Gabriel Magalhães, William Saliba is one of the defensive pillars at Arsenal. Since joining the Gunners, he has featured in 184 matches, scoring 8 goals and providing 3 assists.

His absence presents a real challenge for Mikel Arteta, as the English champions kick off their season on August 21 against Coventry City. In its statement, Arsenal assured fans that every effort will be made to get their defender back on the pitch in the best possible condition.
