Aubrey Modiba wary of 'tough' AmaZulu ahead of clash

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Aubrey Modiba is wary of the threat posed by AmaZulu FC ahead of their Betway Premiership clash at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday night (19h30).

The Brazilians head into the encounter on the back of a shock defeat to Golden Arrows in the first leg of the MTN8 semi-final over the weekend, falling to a solitary goal from Sede Dion.

Now, with the league tie looming, Modiba says losing back-to-back matches is simply unacceptable at Sundowns, and reveals the squad drew positives from the cup semi-final setback.

“It's never easy playing AmaZulu, right now we need to shift our focus to the league game because we took the loss against Arrows, but we take the positives from that game going into the Betway Premiership,” said the Downs left-back.

"It's a different competition compared to the MTN8. We always try to not lose consecutive games at Sundowns, and we're going to try our level best to bounce back and collect [maximum] points.

While Sundowns are eager to avoid consecutive defeats, the Bafana international is under no illusion about the quality possessed by Usuthu, but is banking on the staunch home record of 31 games unbeaten in the league.

“I think it's important to do well at home because if you collect as many points as possible at home you stand a good chance of doing well in the league,” Modiba added.

"It's another game at home in front of our supporters, they always come out in numbers especially at Loftus. We can hear them signing all the time and our performances are always better [at home].

"If you can check our last Betway Premiership game at home, the performance was good and hopefully we can be able to match that going into the next game, but it's a different ball game obviously and we know AmaZulu is a tough team.

"But we're also a good team and the coaches will put up a team that's going to do well on the day and hopefully we get maximum points.

Whether the African champions will claim maximum points at the expense of AmaZulu remains to be seen, having completed a league double over Arthur Zwane's side last season.
