Ballon d'Or 2025: Mohamed Salah experiences a dramatic drop in provisional rankings
Egyptian international, Mohamed Salah, has lost significant ground in the race for the 2025 Ballon d'Or following Liverpool FC's elimination by PSG in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.
Mohamed Salah is no longer at the top of the list for the 2025 Ballon d'Or. The Egyptian international, who was a strong favorite for the trophy, has fallen down the rankings. This is largely due to Liverpool FC's early exit from the UEFA Champions League. The Reds were knocked out by PSG this week in the Round of 16. According to the rankings revealed by the newspaper L'Equipe, the Pharaoh sits in fifth place with 7.4% of fan votes. Kylian is in fourth place with 8% of the votes. Lamine Yamal takes the third spot with 8.8%. Raphinha, on the other hand, maintains his second place with 25%. The biggest surprise in the rankings is Ousmane Dembélé, who currently leads the pack with 40.9% overall.
Mohamed Salah still has a chance to be at least in the Top 3 of the final rankings if he manages to clinch the Premier League title and improve his statistics. The trophy could still be his if his challengers fail to secure more collective titles than he does. For now, he is by far the Premier League's top scorer with 27 goals, seven more than his runner-up Erling Haaland.
