Ballon d’Or 2026: Thomas Müller reveals his two favorites
Interview
Thomas Müller has chosen his favorites for the next Ballon d’Or. With the race looking particularly open this year, the former Germany international has selected two players who have impressed him greatly: Michael Olise and Kylian Mbappé.
Olise and Mbappé have impressed Müller
In his Müller-Mail newsletter, the 37-year-old, who now plays for Vancouver Whitecaps, explained the reasons behind his choice. For the former Bayern Munich player, Olise and Mbappé possess a particularly rare combination of qualities.
For me, there are two candidates who have inspired me the most with their individual performances: Michael Olise and his close France teammate, Kylian Mbappé. The two combine entertainment and danger in front of goal. More specifically, they manage to be effective through their finesse and power, while giving the impression that everything is extremely easy.
Müller particularly appreciates the ability of both players to combine entertainment and efficiency in front of goal. He believes this profile perfectly matches what he expects from a potential best player in the world.
Harry Kane absent from his choices
Müller’s choice may come as a surprise, since Harry Kane, his former teammate at Bayern Munich, is among the players regularly mentioned as contenders for the Ballon d’Or. The England striker nevertheless does not feature among the two favorites selected by the German.
The Ballon d’Or ceremony will take place on October 26 in London. This year, no candidate appears to have clearly pulled ahead before the winner is announced, suggesting a particularly closely contested race.
