Ballon d'Or: Ousmane Dembélé opens up

Having won the Ballon d'Or in 2025, Ousmane Dembélé is once again among the favorites for the trophy this year. Ahead of the grand ceremony scheduled for about a month from now, the Frenchman has opened up.

On Friday, Ousmane Dembélé spoke candidly during a long interview with The Athletic. He was asked if winning the title last year had changed his life. "I don’t think it really changed my life, even though it was incredible. When you’re a kid, you dream of winning that kind of individual trophy—even if it wasn’t a specific goal or an obsession for me. But it was amazing when Ronaldinho handed me the trophy. I felt a great sense of pride—for myself, for my whole family, and for everyone I’ve crossed paths with. They were so happy for me. It’s a unique moment I’ll remember for the rest of my life," he said.

Also speaking to the English outlet, Fabian Ruiz described Dembélé as fundamental to PSG: "That’s why he won the Ballon d’Or last year; he’s a player who stands out from the rest—thanks to his abilities, his two-footed play, his speed, and the goals he scores. Defensively, he helps us a lot, which is important for us as midfielders."

"I’d also highlight the human side—something no one else sees, only those of us here with him, those who appreciate his presence day-to-day. He’s an incredible person who makes you better, helps you out, and spreads happiness in the dressing room. That’s what I’d emphasize above all else," the Spaniard added.
