Barça hit with another setback

Linked with a move to Barça, Aymeric Laporte has been declared untouchable by the Athletic Bilbao management.

Athletic Bilbao wasted no time addressing the rumors linking Aymeric Laporte with a switch to FC Barcelona. Despite the supposed interest from the Catalan giants, the Basque side made it clear that no discussions have taken place.

"We have not received any contact, nor any official or even unofficial offer from FC Barcelona's board regarding the signing of Aymeric Laporte," warned Mikel González.

The sporting director was even more emphatic regarding the reports circulating in the media.

"At this moment, there are no negotiations between the two clubs, and everything being spread in various media outlets is nothing more than rumors with no basis in reality. Laporte is one of the key pieces of our project for the new season, and we have great confidence in his technical abilities and experience. We have never considered his departure."

Under contract until 2028, the Spanish defender is not for sale despite a reported release clause of €15 million. Bilbao, however, have firmly shut the door:

"Aymeric Laporte will continue with us and will not leave during the summer transfer window. We consider him a key player for the team."
