Barça: Laporta reveals why Martínez transfer fell through

FC Barcelona did indeed try to sign Lautaro Martínez during the last summer transfer window. The Catalan club’s president, Joan Laporta, has revealed the details behind the approach, which ultimately ran into Inter Milan’s firm stance.

In an interview with " Corriere dello Sport ", Laporta explained that he had personally contacted Giuseppe Marotta, Inter’s president, to explore the possibility of a transfer for the Argentine striker.

“ He’s an excellent striker, we wanted him at Barça. I personally called Inter president Giuseppe Marotta , and he immediately stopped me: " no chance ”, the Catalan director said.

Laporta thus confirmed that Inter had no intention of parting with their captain during the summer transfer window.

“ I tried every possible way to sign Lautaro Martínez in August », he added, before stressing: " He was not for sale and I respect Inter’s position ”.

After Inter rejected the approach for Lautaro Martínez, Barça continued searching for attacking reinforcements until the close of the transfer window.

The Catalan club ultimately found its reinforcement in Gabriel Jesus, who was signed from Arsenal, bringing its search for a new centre-forward to an end.
