FC Barcelona has yet to find a replacement for Robert Lewandowski. Sporting director Deco confirmed that the Catalan club is actively pursuing a new centre-forward, while also acknowledging just how tough it is to fill the Polish striker’s shoes.

A departure that leaves a huge void

Lewandowski left Barcelona this summer at the end of his contract, making a free move to Chicago Fire. His exit leaves a massive gap in the Blaugrana attack. Julián Álvarez was initially seen as the ideal target, but his arrival now looks increasingly unlikely.

Deco nevertheless assures that Barça have some solutions in-house, but hints that a signing is still likely before the transfer window closes.

Deco: "Very difficult to replace Robert"

The Barcelona executive is not hiding the size of the challenge. Lewandowski marked an era at the club, and replacing him can’t be accomplished simply by bringing in another quality player. Barça therefore want to take their time evaluating all options before making a final decision.

Lewandowski’s departure poses a major sporting challenge for Barcelona. In four seasons, the Polish striker scored 120 goals in 193 matches, along with 24 assists. If the Julián Álvarez option becomes unattainable, Barcelona may be forced to revise their ambitions or opt for a more affordable solution, while keeping internal options in mind.
