Barcelona enters the race for Rodri

Rodri’s future continues to make headlines. Already linked with Real Madrid, the Manchester City midfielder is now reportedly drawing interest from FC Barcelona. According to Spanish journalist Oriol Domènech, the Catalan club has recently sought information about the Spanish international, whose contract with Manchester City runs until the summer of 2027.

An opportunity under review by Barça

The same source suggests that Barcelona sees Rodri as an appealing option, especially following Frenkie de Jong’s injury. The fact that the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner has just one year left on his contract could also lower the potential transfer fee—an important factor for Barça’s finances.

The deal, however, promises to be highly complicated. For several months, Real Madrid has been working on the Rodri file. The Athletic recently reported that the Madrid club has been actively tracking the player. Paris Saint-Germain is also said to be monitoring the situation, setting the stage for fierce competition if Manchester City opens the door to a transfer.

A key player

Since joining Manchester City from Atlético de Madrid in 2019, Rodri has established himself as one of the world’s premier defensive midfielders. At 30, he has racked up 298 appearances, 28 goals, and 32 assists for the Citizens. He was also crowned the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner and named the best player at the 2026 World Cup after Spain’s triumph.

Barça’s interest only confirms Rodri’s standing in the market. His experience, composure on the ball, and leadership make him one of the most sought-after players in Europe. The question remains whether Barcelona can compete with Real Madrid or PSG, as Manchester City continues its efforts to convince the midfield maestro to extend his contract.
