Barcelona is interested in star Eduardo Conceição
Word has reached Barcelona about a young Brazilian named Eduardo Conceicao, a midfielder currently on the books at Palmeiras, and the club has begun to pay him special attention while he represents his country at the UEFA Friendship Tournament in Switzerland.
According to a report from SPORT, the Blaugrana have been tracking the teenager throughout the competition, treating the event as a valuable chance to see how he measures up against some of Europe's strongest youth academies.
That said, the Catalans have stopped short of making any formal move. Conceicao has yet to turn 18, which means Barcelona's interest for the time being amounts to nothing more than quiet observation from a distance.
The talented Brazilian caught the eye of the Spanish giant
In a recent friendly match, 16-year-old Conceição scored two goals during his national team's 6–0 victory over Canada. Barcelona is currently only in the initial stages of monitoring him; they have not yet entered the race to sign him. Barcelona representatives were at the tournament scouting several players—including the young Brazilian—but, as of now, that interest has not evolved into formal negotiations.
Palmeiras wants to keep the player
Palmeiras, for their part, have not been sitting idle when it comes to safeguarding their prized prospect. The Brazilian club has already moved to secure its investment by awarding Conceicao his first professional contract, a deal that includes a release clause of at least €100 million.
That hefty figure effectively throws a major obstacle in front of any club hoping to lure the youngster away, and it poses a particularly daunting challenge for Barcelona, who remain hemmed in by their ongoing financial restrictions in the transfer market.
There is no disputing that the boy possesses real talent, yet not everyone is convinced his growth has unfolded at the pace many had anticipated. That very uncertainty is what makes the Friendship Tournament so valuable to Barcelona.
Instead of rushing into any kind of firm commitment, the club can use the occasion to gauge how the Palmeiras midfielder copes against tougher opposition and to judge whether his recent performances point to yet another leap forward in his development.
