Barcelona: Rodri makes his first request
Rodri has now been announced as the newest signing for FC Barcelona. Barely arrived in Catalonia, the Spanish midfielder already has an idea in mind for his future shirt number.
Rodri wants to reclaim his favorite number
According to Fabrizio Romano, the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner would like to wear the number 16 at Barça. This choice is far from random—Rodri has previously worn this number with the Spanish national team and during his years at Manchester City. The problem: that number currently belongs to Fermín López. However, the departure of Ferran Torres to Paris Saint-Germain could pave the way for a switch.
Barça: Rodri wants the Champions League
With the number 7 now available, López could take it, clearing the way for Rodri to claim the 16. The 30-year-old midfielder arrives in Barcelona after an exceptional spell with Manchester City. Signed from Atlético Madrid in 2019, he had previously made his name at Villarreal before establishing himself as one of the world’s premier midfielders.
A symbol for his new adventure
This detail about the shirt number might seem secondary, but it already highlights the level of importance Rodri holds in Barcelona’s plans. The Spanish midfielder is set to become a key figure in the team’s new project.
His arrival also represents a significant investment for Barça, with the deal estimated at around 800 million Swedish kronor, or nearly 74 million euros. With his experience, tactical intelligence, and leadership, Rodri’s signing could bring a whole new dimension to the blaugrana midfield.
