Barcelona want to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Luis Suárez

Press reports have revealed that Barcelona are very interested in acquiring the services of Colombian striker Luis Suarez in the event that the deal for Julian Alvarez from Atletico Madrid falls through.

In general, Barcelona want to sign a striker before the start of next season, and if the Julian Alvarez deal doesn't go through, they will have to sign an alternative before the start of the new season.

Julian Alvarez remains Barcelona's number one choice... but!

According to a report from Cadena SER on Friday, Álvarez is still sporting director Deco's top priority, while Suárez has emerged as a stronger candidate among three or four alternative options. Barcelona have been in touch with the Colombian striker's representatives, though formal negotiations with Sporting have not yet begun.

For their part, Sporting are unwilling to part ways with the 28-year-old this summer and are steering any interested clubs toward his release clause.

Last season, Suárez netted 28 goals in 32 Portuguese league appearances and finished with 38 across all competitions, including five in the Champions League.

Fabrizio Romano was the first to report Barcelona's interest, while Jijantes added that head coach Hansi Flick has given the green light to a potential move should the Álvarez pursuit stall. Barcelona are also evaluating other striker options, with Ferran Torres potentially on his way out of the club.
