Bayern: major blow for Manuel Neuer

At Bayern, Manuel Neuer will be sidelined for several weeks. The German club has just announced the bad news.

Although he started on Saturday afternoon in Bayern Munich's victory over Werder Bremen (0-3), Manuel Neuer had to give up his spot at halftime. The German press initially reported it as a precautionary substitution. However, Neuer's injury appears to be more serious than first thought. According to the club, the 39-year-old goalkeeper has suffered a calf tear.

"Bayern Munich will have to do without its captain for the time being: Manuel Neuer has suffered a muscle tear in his left calf, sustained yesterday during the away Bundesliga match against Werder Bremen. This diagnosis was confirmed after a thorough examination by Bayern’s medical staff," the club stated in its announcement.

According to Sky Sports, Manuel Neuer will miss the upcoming match against Eintracht Frankfurt next weekend, and possibly the Klassiker against Dortmund a week later. BILD reports he could be out for three weeks.
