Benin: Marcel Dandjinou issues a warning to Lionel Messi
Tomorrow, Benin are set to face Argentina at the Monumental Stadium. The match will be Lionel Messi’s last with the Albiceleste on home soil.
Even before then, Marcel Dandjinou, who will be in goal for Benin, issued a warning. Questioned by MARCA from Buenos Aires, the Beninese goalkeeper acknowledged the immense significance of the occasion while reminding everyone that his team did not intend simply to attend the celebration.
Marcel Dandjinou was even asked whether he might let Messi score a goal in his final match, particularly from the penalty spot. The Beninese goalkeeper’s response was very clear: “No, no. I’m a goalkeeper, and my job is to stop shots. Even if it’s the last minute and there’s a penalty, if Messi takes it, I’ll try to save it. It’s as simple as that: it’s football. Yes, we are here to celebrate Messi, but nobody told us that we had to give him a goal. And knowing Messi, we don’t need to give him any gifts. If he wants to score, he’ll have to do everything possible to make it happen.”
