Borussia Dortmund: Niko Kovac set to extend until 2029
Niko Kovac is expected to remain in the Borussia Dortmund dugout beyond 2027. According to Bild, the Croatian coach and the German club’s management have agreed on a two-season contract extension.
Agreement reached between the two parties
Currently under contract with Borussia Dortmund until June 2027, Niko Kovac is expected to extend his commitment until 2029. According to information from Bild, the two parties have reached an agreement on the main terms of the extension. The deal could be officially confirmed soon, although no official announcement has yet been made.
This extension comes after a week marked by several important decisions within the BVB’s management. The club notably extended the contracts of Carsten Cramer, Lars Ricken and Thomas Tress, three executives holding key positions within the organization.
BVB opts for continuity
According to Bild, Kovac wanted to wait until the future of Lars Ricken, the club’s sporting director, had been clarified before making a decision on his own contract. With the situation now settled, the Croatian coach has reportedly given the go-ahead for the extension.
By extending Niko Kovac’s contract until 2029, Borussia Dortmund would be pursuing a policy of stability, both on the bench and within its management structures. If the agreement reported by the German press is officially confirmed, the coach will continue his work with the Ruhr club over the coming seasons.
