Brayan Leon issues stern warning to rivals

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Brayan Leon has issued a stern warning to rivals ahead of the highly-anticipated 2026/27 campaign after an impressive half-season last term.

The 25-year-old arrived at Chloorkop from Independiente Medellin in a high-profile move worth in the region of $3.5 million (R57 million) during the January transfer window.

He hit the ground running as he netted on his debut in the Betway Premiership against the now-relegated Orbit College, en route to stamping his authority in the PSL.

Leon went on to announce himself in the prestigious CAF Champions League, scoring a brace on debut against Sudanese giants Al-Hilal Omdurman at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

The lethal forward finished with five goals in Africa's premier club competition, one shy of the top scorer, helping Sundowns clinch the elusive continental title, much to his delight.

“These five months in South Africa have been incredible. Playing in the PSL and the CAF Champions League was different from anything I have experienced. Away games were the toughest because you need extra energy, extra focus, and extra heart,” said Leon on Edition 16 of Sundowns Magazine.

"Winning the CAF Champions League feels surreal. To help bring the trophy back after ten years, that was our biggest dream. Everyone is happy. Everyone worked for this.

Having scored 15 goals in just 26 matches across all competitions, Leon is eager to add to his Downs tally as he eyes a trophy overhaul with the African champions next season.

“I am excited to go home and see my family and friends in Colombia. I will rest, recover, and prepare for next season,” added the Colombia international.

"Next season, I want to score more goals than I did this season. If I scored 15 in half a season, I know I can do much better in a full one. And I want to help the team win more trophies. It is going to be an exciting season for us.

Whether Leon can replicate his red-hot form in front of goals in the 2026/27 campaign remains to be seen, with the player already touted to win the Golden Boot.
