Brazil: Vanderson called up as replacement after Wesley injury

AS Monaco right-back Vanderson has been called up by Carlo Ancelotti to join the Brazil national team and replace Wesley, who withdrew due to injury.

Wesley’s injury opens the door for Vanderson

The AS Roma player injured his right thigh during the match against Inter Milan last Saturday, which ended in a 2-2 draw. He will therefore miss Brazil’s next two friendly matches against Australia and India.

Wesley will continue his recovery at the Trigoria training centre during the international break, with the aim of returning to the pitch quickly.

This call-up gives Vanderson another opportunity to establish himself with Brazil, as Ancelotti continues his experiments to shape the new face of the national team after the 2026 World Cup.

Having joined AS Monaco in January 2022 from Grêmio, the 25-year-old full-back has made 155 appearances in the Monaco shirt, scoring 8 goals and providing 16 assists. He has also received 27 yellow cards and 3 red cards, all after a second booking.
