According to Fabrizio Romano, the Premier League champions have been in talks for several days, but Chelsea remain unwavering in their stance, demanding the complete sum under specific payment conditions before the week concludes. Should the deadline pass without an agreement, the 25-year-old midfielder will remain under Xabi Alonso's guidance.

City Push for Fernández as Chelsea Stand to Profit

City are on the hunt for a replacement for Rodri, whose departure appears increasingly likely, and the 2022 World Cup winner is viewed by Enzo Maresca as the ideal candidate. The Italian coach knows Fernández well from their shared time at Chelsea and has personally backed the move for his fellow countryman.

Barcelona had previously pulled out of the race after the London club dismissed their offer as "laughable." Should the transfer go through on Chelsea's terms, it would recoup the club's record outlay—Fernández joined from Benfica in January 2023 for £106.8 million, a British record at the time.
