Deco denies Barcelona made an illegal move for Álvarez

Barcelona sporting director Deco has spoken about the club's attempts to sign Julián Álvarez in the summer, insisting that the Argentine was never pushed by the Catalans into going public with a wish to leave Atlético Madrid.

"Barcelona did not pressure Julián Álvarez to publicly express his desire to leave Atlético Madrid. It was his own decision," Deco explained.

He went on to defend how the club handled the situation, saying, "We've done things right. We made a formal and appropriate offer, but there was no response from Atleti."

As for the Madrid club's stance, Deco made it clear that their answer never changed: "They always told us they didn't want to sell him, and you can't keep insisting on the same issue over and over."

Barcelona turned to signing Gabriel Jesus

After missing out on Julián Álvarez, Barcelona opted for the easier solution: signing the Brazilian Gabriel Jesus from Arsenal for €10 million plus add-ons. Although Jesus was not Deco's preferred choice, the club signed him during the final hours of the transfer window.

The Brazilian made significant financial and salary concessions to join his dream club, Barcelona.
