Breaking: Jordan Pickford faces legal scrutiny for nearly causing a traffic accident
A court has been told that England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford came dangerously close to causing a collision with two other vehicles while driving carelessly in his £200,000 Lamborghini supercar.
The 32-year-old shot-stopper was stopped by officers after he failed to obey a give way sign, forcing two cars to brake hard, before accelerating away into the distance.
The episode unfolded on April 14 in the affluent Cheshire town of Knutsford, leading to a criminal charge of driving without due care or attention, accroding to itvnews.
Police reports reveal Jordan Pickford's involvement
Court documents reveal that PC Cecil Ricardo of Cheshire Police had only just stepped out of the station when his attention was caught by a blue Lamborghini Urus bearing personalised plates — Pickford's vehicle.
"I was stationary on Bexton Road, Knutsford, waiting for traffic signals to turn green," he wrote."I then witnessed a blue Lamborghini Urus driving along Princess Street. It reached the junction with Toft Road, completely ignored the give way lines and pulled onto Toft Road causing two vehicles to slam on their brakes to avoid a collision. The Lamborghini then sped down Toft Road, Knutsford."
PC Ricardo recounted how he switched on his lights and siren to give chase, observing that he himself was travelling at 50mph while the Lamborghini "was still pulling away".
"The speed limit on that stretch of Toft Road, Knutsford, is 30mph," he noted.
According to the officer, Pickford seemed to spot the pursuing police car and brought his vehicle to a stop.
Pickford entered a written guilty plea under the Single Justice Procedure and informed Warrington Magistrates Court: "I would like to attend court to put forward my mitigation."
