Brentford: Benjamin Fredrick promoted to the first team

Benjamin Fredrick continues his rise. Brentford has officially promoted the 21-year-old Nigerian defender to the first team for the 2026/2027 Premier League season. At the same time, the Bees have offered him a new contract running until 2030, with an option for an additional year.

Deeply moved after this new milestone in his career, Nigerian international Benjamin Fredrick paid tribute to the role Brentford has played in his development.

"It's an incredible feeling. I am happy and proud of myself, and my family is as well. The club has helped me enormously. When I arrived here, I was a bit nervous and shy. I hadn't yet mastered some basics, because the environment I come from is very different from here," Benjamin Fredrick revealed.

A journey built between Nigeria and England

Originally from Kaduna, Benjamin Fredrick was trained at the Simoiben Football Academy. After a season at Abubakar Bukola Saraki FC in 2021/2022, he joined Nasarawa United before signing with Brentford.

His performances with the reserve team allowed him to quickly climb the ranks. In May 2025, he was voted Brentford B's Player of the Season by his teammates.

A career reaching new heights

A few weeks after this recognition, Fredrick earned his first cap for the Super Eagles, taking part in Nigeria's victory over Jamaica in the Unity Cup final, clinched on penalties at the Gtech Community Stadium.

His promotion to the first team and contract extension are clear signs of the trust Brentford has placed in him. The young defender will now have the chance to establish himself in the Premier League wearing the colors of the London club.
