Brentford: Mamadou Sangaré opens up about settling in

Mamadou Sangaré left RC Lens and Ligue 1 to join Brentford. The Malian made a successful start to life in the Premier League.

In the Premier League, the places at the top of the table are currently being taken by teams that know how to perform at the start of the season. Brentford are a case in point: they sit fourth in the standings despite having a squad with fewer undeniable talents. Signed this summer, Mamadou Sangaré has impressed in his new colours.

Brentford: Sangaré acknowledges a distinctive strategy

Brentford employs a distinctive recruitment strategy. The club conducts extensive scouting before moving to convince a player. Sangaré was impressed before signing.

“It was incredible. It was the first time I had seen anything like that. I visited a few clubs, but I had never seen an approach like it. Brentford have a well-organised structure. It was something I had never seen before – it really pushed me to choose this club. I had a positive and detailed discussion with the coach (editor’s note: Keith Andrews). He showed me his style of play and what he expected from me,” the Malian told Sky Sports.

“I’m a little different from the other players because I see things differently. For me, Brentford was the best option as a young player who still has to prove himself at the highest level,” he added.

Sangaré sets his target

Although he impressed on his debut, Sangaré has not secured an undisputed starting place. He was on the bench against Chelsea before the international break and then against Aston Villa. “It’s up to me to work twice as hard to win back my place, even though I wouldn’t say I’ve lost it. It’s up to me to keep working and do even more than the others. We’ll see,” said the former Lens player, determined to make Brentford the surprise package of the season.
