It’s now official. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the shortlist of national teams nominated for the title of African National Team of the Year 2025. This highly coveted award will be presented at the upcoming CAF Awards ceremony, honoring the nation that has made the most significant sporting impact over the year.

The teams in contention are: Algeria, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Ghana, Morocco, Morocco U20, Senegal, South Africa, and Tunisia. Among them, the inclusion of Morocco U20, fresh off their historic World Cup triumph against Argentina, stands out as a major talking point.

However, one notable omission has already sparked debate: South Africa U20, despite being crowned African champions in their age group earlier this year, is absent from the list. This surprising CAF decision has left many African football observers puzzled.
