The second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League will take place during the weeks of October 17 and 24, with qualification for the group stage at stake.

Among the 16 fixtures on the schedule, five stand out and could remain undecided until the final whistle.

MAS Fès – ASEC Mimosas

Last season’s Moroccan champions, MAS Fès preserved their advantage from the first leg by holding Rahimo FC to a 0-0 draw, winning 4-1 on aggregate. The Moroccan club will face ASEC Mimosas, a competition regular, in one of the standout clashes of this second round.

The Mimos had to battle to secure their qualification. After drawing 1-1 with Togo’s ASC Kozah in the first leg, they won 2-1 in the return match to set up a meeting with the Moroccan club.

TP Mazembe – Club Africain

This match will bring back bad memories for Club Africain, after the Congolese side won 8-0 in the group stage of the 2019 edition.

The Congolese produced one of the standout performances of the first round by beating Medeama 3-1 and securing their qualification with a 4-1 aggregate score. The Red and Whites held Djoliba to a 2-2 draw after their narrow 1-0 win in the first leg.

Enugu Rangers IFC – MC Alger

Nigeria’s Enugu Rangers qualified in dramatic fashion (5-4 on penalties) after two 1-1 draws in the first and second legs. They will face MC Alger in the second round.

After drawing 0-0 with Nigerien club ASN Nigelec, the Algerian side left no doubt in the return match, winning 5-0.

Teungueth FC - Colombe SDL

The Senegalese champions qualified after two 1-0 wins against Benin’s FC Cantchungo. As for the Cameroonians, they eliminated Stade Malien on penalties (4-3) after two goalless draws (0-0). This match could be one of the most evenly balanced, with the two teams closely matched.

Teungueth FC

Horoya AC - Al Merreikh SC

Guinea’s Horoya pulled off a surprise by eliminating JS Saoura. Beaten 1-0 by the Algerians, they turned the tie around in the return match, winning 3-1 to qualify.

As for the Sudanese side, they defeated Zambia’s Power Dynamos FC 1-0 in both matches to move within one round of the group stage.
