CAF Champions League: AS Mangasport knocked out by African Stars
AS Mangasport will not be going any further. The Gabonese giants have been knocked out of the CAF Champions League following their 2-0 defeat to African Stars on Saturday.
It was a cruel turn of events. Having won 3-1 in the first leg, Mangasport were knocked out on away goals. The aggregate score was 3-3, but it was the Namibian side that progressed to the second round.
African Stars turned the tie around in 50 minutes
African Stars applied pressure from the outset and never let up on home soil. Lawrence Doeseb opened the scoring in the 14th minute to reignite the drama. After the break, Liam April doubled the lead in the 50th minute. 2–0. With this result, African Stars progress thanks to the away goals rule, despite the 3–3 aggregate score.
Journey ends for the Gabonese
AS Mangasport had, however, put themselves in a strong position in the first leg. But, unable to score away from home, the Gabonese club paid the price. African Stars qualify for the second round of the CAF Champions League. The Gabonese, meanwhile, are heading home.
