CAF Champions League: Enugu Rangers files complaint with CAF against MC Alger
On Sunday afternoon, MC Alger were beaten in Nigeria by Enugu Rangers. After the match, the Nigerian side officially filed a complaint with CAF.
Indeed, MC Alger’s 2-0 defeat away to Enugu Rangers on Sunday in the first leg of the African Champions League playoff was marred by regrettable incidents at the MKO-Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta. Several hundred “Chnaoua” (the nickname given to Algiers-based fans) had made the long journey to Nigeria to support their team.
However, after the final whistle, some of them allegedly vented their anger by attacking the facilities and members of the Algerian club’s staff.
Clashes in the tunnel
According to Nigerian media reports, supporters besieged the tunnel leading to the dressing rooms and confronted Khaled Ben Yahia. Security forces had to intervene to protect and evacuate the Tunisian coach. A member of his staff was also allegedly assaulted.

The anger was all the more intense because Enugu Rangers had played much of the match with ten men. MC Alger eventually conceded two goals within three minutes late in the game and will now have to produce a major comeback in the return leg to reach the group stage.
Enugu Rangers files complaint with CAF
In an official complaint addressed to the Confederation of African Football, Enugu Rangers accused the visiting supporters of forcing open a stadium gate, entering without paying the admission fee and damaging several seats. The Nigerian club also said it had sent photos and videos to the continental governing body.
Rangers is therefore calling for an investigation, reimbursement of the lost revenue and security guarantees ahead of the return leg in Algiers. According to the Nigerian press, the club has even asked CAF to consider holding the match behind closed doors.
