CAF Cup: Panthère du Ndé draw with Rayon Sports

Panthère Sportive du Ndé failed to make the difference on home soil. On Friday at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Omnisports Stadium, the Nzuimanto were held to a 1–1 draw by Rayon Sports in the first leg of the first preliminary round of the CAF Cup.

Lead lost in the dying moments

The home side got off to a good start. Valentin Beo Batto opened the scoring in the 14th minute. La Panthère held onto their lead until the final quarter of an hour. Junior Kameni popped up in the 74th minute to bring the Rwandans level. Final score: 1–1.

La Panthère lacked the clinical finishing needed to kill off the match. Rayon Sports capitalised on a more open end to the match to draw level. Both teams go into the next match with everything still to play for.

Off to Kigali on 12 September

The return leg is scheduled to take place in Kigali in a few days’ time. Qualification for the second and final preliminary round of the CAF Cup will be decided there. The Cameroonians know they will need to be more clinical away from home. Rayon Sports, spurred on by their home crowd, will be looking to build on this result.
