CAF LDC: Orlando Pirates beat La Cure Waves 3-1 to reach the second round
Orlando Pirates are on a mission. Following a 0–0 draw in the first leg, the Buccaneers hosted and defeated La Cure Waves of Mauritius 3–1 in Soweto on Saturday in the second leg of the first qualifying round of the CAF Champions League.
A swift recovery after an early setback
The start of the match was, however, a cause for concern. The Pirates were caught off guard by La Cure Waves as early as the 6th minute. But the response was immediate. In the 8th minute, Kabelo Kgositsile equalised and got his side back on track. Before half-time, Abdeslam Ouaddou’s men made the difference: Kamogelo Sebelebele scored the Betway Premiership side’s second goal in the 25th minute, before Yanela Mbuthuma doubled the lead in the 37th. The final whistle blew with the score at 3-1, marking a spectacular comeback.
On to the second preliminary round
With this victory, Orlando Pirates have progressed to the next round of the 2026–2027 CAF Champions League. After a tight first leg, the Buccaneers demonstrated their experience and clinical finishing on home soil. The Soweto club’s journey towards the group stage continues.
