Cameroon: Mohamed Salah appears on the electoral list (photo)

This Sunday, Cameroon heads to the polls to choose its new president. But a bizarre story is making the rounds on social media: the face of football star Mohamed Salah has reportedly shown up on the electoral list at the Ngaoundéré III polling station.

After some fact-checking, several media outlets have confirmed that this image does indeed appear on the official site of Elecam, the body responsible for organizing the elections. Even more astonishing: the name used matches the first letters of the “AZERTY” keyboard. This coincidence has sparked plenty of laughter online, but it also reignites concerns about the reliability of Cameroon’s electoral lists.

While there’s still no official denial, Mohamed Salah—the real one—is getting ready to play for Egypt against Guinea-Bissau this Sunday. The Pharaohs have already secured their spot at the 2026 World Cup and are looking to cap off their qualifying campaign in style.
