On Tuesday, Cameroon recorded its first defeat since Belgian coach Marc Brys (63) took charge of the team, falling 0-1 to Cape Verde.

The match took place in Praia as part of the eighth round of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

Dailon Livramento secured the win for the "Blue Sharks" with his decisive goal in the 54th minute, bringing his team closer to a historic qualification.

During the post-match press conference, the Belgian coach stated: "They played with great determination. They supported each other. Unfortunately, at a certain point, doubt crept into our team—I don't know why."

He added: "In the second half, we played better than in the first. We tried to put pressure on our opponents and create opportunities. We lost, and that's football. There are things outside of football, but now is not the time to talk about them."

And he concluded: "We have to deal with this defeat now. We saw a team backed by its fans, and they knew how to make the most of their strong moments—something we couldn't do. Cape Verde succeeded, and I congratulate them."
