CAN 2025: Walid Regragui calls for Pape Thiaw’s head after the final
We saw it, we lived it! Tensions were running high last night between Senegal and Morocco in the CAN 2025 final. Walid Regragui took aim at Pape Thiaw after the match.
Bitterly disappointed by the refereeing decisions at the end of regular time in the CAN 2025 final between Morocco and Senegal (0-1, a.e.t.), Senegal’s coach Pape Thiaw instructed his players to leave the pitch and head to the dressing room. However, his Moroccan counterpart, Walid Regragui, did not appreciate this behavior.
“The image Africa projected in this final is a bit shameful. When a coach asks his players to leave the field... What Pape did does not honor Africa. It’s not classy, but it’s not the end of the world: he’s the African champion, so he’s entitled to say what he wants. We stopped the match in front of the whole world for at least 10 minutes... It didn’t help Brahim Diaz (who missed his penalty right after, editor’s note), but that’s no excuse. Now, we’re not going to go back, we’ll take responsibility,” said the Atlas Lions’ coach in the post-match press conference.
