Zambia kicked off their campaign at the CAN U17 2025 with a bang. The Young Chipolopolo defeated Tanzania 4-1 on Monday, April 31, 2025, during the opening day of the group stage at Stade El Bachir, Mohammédia.

After the clash between Morocco and Uganda, the second showdown of Group A featured Zambia against Tanzania. The Young Chipolopolo confirmed their status as favorites with a solid performance.

A match controlled from start to finish

From the kickoff, Zambia displayed unwavering determination and set the pace against a Tanzanian team searching for balance. In the 8th minute, Jonathan Momba Kalimina opened the scoring, capitalizing on a disorganized Tanzanian defense. Just before halftime, Abel Salim Nyirongoa doubled the lead. The Young Chipolopolo went into the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead over the Serengeti Boys.

In the second half, Zambian dominance continued. Mike Bwalya Mutale netted the third goal in the 79th minute, virtually sealing the match's fate. Tanzania, despite a few offensive bursts, managed to narrow the gap in stoppage time thanks to Juma Mwita Sagwe in the 95th minute. However, Gabriel Phiri responded immediately for Zambia, scoring the fourth goal and restoring the margin in the 96th minute. This resounding victory places Zambia in second place in Group A, behind Morocco.
