CAN U17: Achraf Lookmane Tapsoba dethrones Djibril Touré and Isaac Success
Achraf Lookmane Tapsoba continues to shine at the 2025 Africa U17 Cup of Nations with the Burkina Faso national team. The 19-year-old forward already has 7 goals in the tournament after the quarter-finals, surpassing the previous record of 6 goals set by Guinean Djibril Touré and Nigerian Isaac Success.
Since the start of the competition, the young Stallion has been brilliantly leading his team in the race for Burkina Faso's second title. On the first day of the group stage, he scored a brace and secured victory for his side against Cameroon (2-1), followed by a goal against Egypt (2-1) and against South Africa (2-0). His peak came during the quarter-final against Zambia, where he netted a hat-trick, bringing his total to 7 goals.
The previous record for goals in a single edition of the U17 AFCON was held by Djibril Touré and Isaac Success, who each scored 6 goals in 2013 and 2017 respectively. With seven goals, Burkinabe Achraf Lookmane Tapsoba sets a new benchmark in the history of the competition. The young Stallions are in the semi-finals of the tournament. Tapsoba now has the chance to extend his record for this edition of the U17 AFCON or see his Ivorian runner-up Alynho Haidara (6 goals) dethrone him to make history.
